Lane Kiffin leaves Tenessee for USC

January 12, 2010

So the college football season gets even crazier. Pete Carroll, who recently resigned from his position on January 8, as the USC Trojan football coach to jump to the NFL, has been replaced by Lane Kiffin.

Lane Kiffin served as head coach at the University of Tennessee for one year. He brings with him Monte Kiffin, his father, who served as defensive coordinator at Tennessee and Ed Orgeron an assistant head coach and instrumental figure in recruiting for Lane and Tennessee's first recruiting class under Lane Kiffin.

Lane Kiffin was on Pete Carroll's staff at USC from 2001-06 as WR coach and offensive coordinator.

Kippy Brown has been named the interim head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers.

This move by the Kiffin's is a huge blow to Tennessee since there are three weeks till National Signing Day. The Kiffin hiring shores up the USC ship which saw big commitments waffling on their intentions to become a Trojan once Pete Carroll's resignation hit the news.
