Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada sign

This iconic sign was created by Betty Willis 50 years ago for Clark County. It is located on the median on Las Vegas Boulevard about a half mile south from Mandalay Bay.

The back of the sign reads Drive Carefully Come Back Soon.

On the front of the sign, each letter in WELCOME is inside a circle which are meant to be silver dollars.

When you examine it closely, you can see that each circle has the word "Liberty", the phrase "In God We Trust",  and the year "1922."

If you stand south of the sign or in front of the Welcome side of the sign, there is a spade, heart, club, and diamond in that order left to right.

The lights from the sign have been removed and are sold as a souvenirs. A portion of the proceeds are earmarked to benefit local charities.

The second week of December 2008 marked the opening of a small parking lot on the median of Las Vegas Boulevard to provide safe access to the sign. Before the parking lot opened, one had to navigate traffic to get up close to take pictures of the sign.

There are traffic lights about a city block to the north. Most people would park in the empty lot where the Klondike Hotel and Casino once stood and safely cross there to take pictures to this world famous sign.

A quick bit of trivia: Betty Willis was paid $4,000.00 for designing the sign!
